Conditioning

This is kind of a sad week at CrossFit Forte. In the next couple days we will lose three great people and CrossFitters: Paige Kimbro, Melissa Lau, and John Hostek. Paige is moving to Hawaii to be with her husband who is stationed out there, Melissa was here for the summer studying at Vanderbilt and is moving back to NYC, and John recently graduated from Vanderbilt and got a job in NYC. Even though the three of you weren’t here for long, it was a ton of fun and more than a pleasure working  with you. You are all great people and have tremendous potential as CrossFitters. If you see them at the gym, be sure to say your goodbyes and give them a big sweaty hug. Paige, Melissa, and John: you will be missed. Be sure to stop by anytime you’re in town, too!

Back squat 5 x 3 (5 – 10 lbs heavier than the last time done)
Press 5 x 3 (2.5 – 5 lbs heavier than the last time done)
This is the last week of our 8-week linear squat and press strength cycle. Because we have been increasing the load by 5 to 10 lbs (2.5 – 5 lbs for the press) every week for eight weeks, the weight today will be heavy – depending on how often you came on the squat and press day in the past two months, you should be at around 90% of your current 1 RM. Be sure to ask for a spotter if your squat is feeling really heavy. Safety first! Next week we will once again test your 1 rep max for both movements. Can’t wait for the new PRs!

Conditioning
Complete the following for time:
35 Burpees
90 Thrusters (45 / 35)
35 Burpees
*If you choose to use an empty barbell for the thrusters, please don’t drop it. Thank you.

How about those CrossFit Games, eh? Looks like my predictions were right. Rich Froning and Samantha Briggs are the two fittest people on earth. I’ve mentioned this to some of you at the gym, but I’d like to make sure everyone knows about this. There is a competition coming up in October – the 19th and 20th – called the Scary Strong Games. It is a two day individual competition. There will be both Rx and Scaled divisions. This is the 2nd annual Scary Strong Games. Proceeds benefit Steve’s Club Nashville which provides at-risk youth nutrition and fitness guidance.  The last one was held on a weekend that Katelyn and I went to get our USA – Weightlifting certificates, so we were forced to miss it; however, we did get back to Nashville before it ended so we were able to catch the back end of the competition. All of our friends who competed and everyone we talked to agreed that it was a very well organized and fun competition. I’m trying to get as many of you to sign up as I can.  I’m pumped about this. Registration begins next week.
